Darley Cubs and Brownies our ''young roots ''are ''back home ''at the newly refurbished Christ Church Community Centre.
Darley in Bloom encourage the young children to grow plants and vegetables from seed, the Brownies decided to grow flowers and the Cubs chose to grow potatoes.
Darley in Bloom members joined the Brownies and planted marigold, African marigolds Sunflower and Chillie seeds , these were then left to grow in one of the DIB member's greenhouse, when the seeds were large enough to transplant the Brownies enjoyed an evening potting the seedlings in to larger pots, they have now taken them home to care for them and will bring them back to plant the Sunflowers at our wild life haven at Fringill Beck, the marigolds will be planted in a Trefoil design in the garden (which the Brownies look after) at the front of the church, and the remaining plants will be planted in the gardens of the Community bungalows for the ''over 60''s, bringing friendship to both the young and the older people

Darley in Bloom members joined the Cubs to plant different types of dark coloured potatoes, the buckets were one third filled with compost a potato placed on top of the compost and lightly covered with more compost, the boys took the buckets home to look after them, with instructions that each time they could see leaves growing then they are to top the bucket up a little more with compost, until the bucket is full to the top, after six weeks they must start to water the potatoes. Before the Cubs break up in the summer there will be a competition for the most potatoes grown from one potato.
